Junior and senior privileges for the current school year will not be in effect until September 10, 2010.  Until then, the expectation is that all students will be in school for the entire day.

Parents and students are reminded that the opportunity to arrive at school late or depart early is a privilege.  Student achievement and appropriate behavior are priorities at the high school and they will take precedence over senior and junior privileges.  If a student is in need of an academic intervention, that intervention will be prescribed by the school and it may necessitate forfeiting privileges until significant progress has been made.  As well, if a student demonstrates a pattern of inappropriate behavior or commits a serious infraction of the student handbook, that student will forfeit privileges for a period of time.

There will not be any Junior Parking on campus for the remainder of this school year. There were fewer early graduates with parking spaces and the Fire Marshal modified the Fire Lane in the rear lot of the building, eliminating a number of available spaces. There are a few open spaces that can be assigned to current seniors who have recently obtained their driver’s licenses on a first-come / pro-rated basis.  eligible students should visit the Security Office.

The University of Connecticut is offering a one week residential summer Engineering program for current sophomores and juniors from June 27, 2010 to July 1, 2010. Students must be recommended by a science, math or technology teacher. The cost of the program is $500 and is highly competitive. Although we can send in as many applications as we like, UConn ultimately has the final decision as to who is selected for the program. Usually only one person per High School is accepted and it is possible that no Newtown HS students will be accepted. If you are interested, please stop by the Career Center for a brochure with details on the program, and an application.
