Thursday, March 25, 2010 will be an early dismissal at the high school for parent conferences.  Outtakes will be open from 7am until 11 am, serving an array of  breakfast sandwiches, hash browns,  salad plates, sandwiches, fresh fruit cups, smoothies, and an assortment of snack items.

Video Production III students Matt Rospenda, Mahbuhbuhl Hassan, Ryan Bienkowski, Shawn Chowdhury, and Ryan Ames were commissioned to produce a promotional video (Outtakes Video) for Chartwell’s Outtakes food service at the high school. Outtakes is an innovative approach to high school commisary installations, and the facility at Newtown High School is one of the first in the country.

Chartwell’s will be presenting the video at an upcoming New England region conference for the food service industry.

Congratulations to the camermen and editors, and to their teacher, Mary Ann Snieckus.

The word “flexitarian” comes from flexible + vegetarian, which means sometimes meat or chicken is included in a meal and sometimes vegetarian sources of protein are used instead.

A flexitarian is someone who actively incorporates meatless meals into his or her diet but isn’t necessarily a vegetarian. The Outtakes section of the high school cafeteria will be open during conference days from 7 am to 11:30 am. Students and Staff will be able to purchase our regular Breakfast Selections in addition to the following items: Assorted Sandwiches & Wraps, Assorted Salad Plates, Fruit & Cheese Platter, Smoothies, Pudding Cups, Fruit Cups, Fresh Fruit Selection (apples, oranges, etc.), Assorted Bagged Snacks, Cookies, etc.

cashregStudents can add funds to their cafeteria account between the hours of 7am and 10am (breakfast service).  Parents can add funds to accounts via the Internet at cafeprepay.com (parents will need to know their student’s School ID Number).  Students are encouraged to use their School ID to purchase lunch.  Scanning allows the lines to move along quickly!

The last serving day for students and teachers to receive breakfast/lunch at the High School will be June 18th. From the 19th to the end of school, drinks and snacks can be purchased out of the vending machines in the cafeteria.

Popularity and creativity with whole grains were at an all-time high as evidenced by the winners of the Whole Grains Challenge. Chartwells School Dining Services, the company that serves breakfast and lunch to over 2.3 million school children each day, and Newtown Public Schools, are pleased to announce that they have won 1st place in the medium schools category for the annual Whole Grains Challenge.

The high school cafeteria will be serving breakfast only on early dismissal days.  In addition to the regular breakfast menu, Chef Joel and Chef Frank will be making omelets to order (with home fries or fruit salad).
