Newtown High School Boys’ Basketball beat Kolbe Cathedral Tuesday night to earn a spot in the South West Conference Championship game on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 7:30 at Masuk High School. Newtown will play undefeated Stratford.  Come out and support the team. Let’s fill the gym with Nighthawk fans.

The Newtown High School Boys’ Basketball team won the Southwest Conference Boys’ Basketball Tip-Off Tournament by defeating Kaynor Tech 71-50 last Friday night at Bunnell High School. Senior Dan Lynch led the Nighthawks with 20 points in the championship game and was named the tournament’s M.V.P. Andy Lapple was named to the All-Tournament team. The boys basketball team is off to a 2-0 start and will play Pomperaug at home on December 22, 2009.

The Newtown High School Girls’ Basketball team won the inaugural Southwest Conference Girls’ Basketball Tip-Off Tournament by defeating New Fairfield 58-51 last Friday night at the Hawk’s Nest. Senior Sara Kelley led the young Nighthawks with 29 points in the championship game. The girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start and will play at Pomperaug on December 22, 2009.
