Students in Miss Ward’s Spanish 3 Honors class practiced their debating skills. The objective was to give convincing arguments, in Spanish, to be elected “President of the United States”. Each student had to use the present perfect tense to describe what they have done for the country; and the future tense to describe what they will do for their country if elected. Using vocabulary from the chapter, students boasted of having established pedestrian zones, planting trees, putting out more trashcans for the public, and bettering their communities in general. Many students pledged that as president that they would work to ensure more use of solar energy to better the air quality, develop better science for solar cars, improve traffic problems throughout the country, and a myriad of other promising ideas. Don Morrissey vowed that he would self-appoint himself dictator for life, would destroy all the trees in the United States, would increase pollution, and generally ruin the planet. Ironically, Don was voted for president. Co-vice presidents, with their positive messages for the world, were Hannah Maret and Troy Neves. Congratulations to the winners of the great debate!
