Archive for the “Library Media Center” CategoryWant to inspire a love of reading in others, and share some great reads with your friends? Join a community of readers and take part in the Newtown High School 2010 Literacy Initiative. The Library Media Center is collecting book suggestions from students, staff, and faculty of their favorite summer reads and posting them (along with their name and photo) on the bulletin board outside of the Career Center across from the LMC. As the display grows, it will be continued into the LMC. The goal is to encircle the entire library with a “community of readers” and instill in a life-long love reading to the entire NHS community. Please be an important part of our community of readers and take a moment to complete the following: You can fill out a form at the Library Media Center, or email zandonellal@newtown.k12.ct.us

Advanced Placement Exams & The Library Media CenterPosted by admin in Announcement, Library Media CenterThe Newtown High School Library Media Center will be CLOSED to general student use on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. This is to accommodate the administration of the Advanced Placement examinations on that day, which run from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon. It is our goal to offer the examinations in an isolated, quiet environment for students that minimizes the disruption to the rest of the operation of the high school. Unfortunately, because of space limitations and scheduling tightness, we will have to use the LMC for a day this year. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and consideration. Tags: Advanced Placement
Our next meeting will be in the Library Media Center on Monday, October 12th, from 2:00 – 3:00 to discuss Erewhon by Samuel Butler. Erewhon is a faraway land where machinery is forbidden, sickness is a punishable crime, and criminals receive compassionate medical treatment, Buter’s brilliant Utopian novel is an entertaining and thought-provoking work, taking aim at such hallowed institutions as family, church, and mechanical progress. Lee Brownell, Library Media Center Staff Member, has added her personal touch to a number of ceiling tiles in the LMC. Stop by to see the original artwork (and grab a book while you are there).
